Bronze sculptures, renowned for their durability and artistic appeal, exhibit unique behaviors in highly acidic or alkaline environments. While bronze is inherently corrosion-resistant due to its copper-tin alloy composition, extreme pH levels can accelerate degradation.

In acidic conditions, bronze develops a protective patina—a greenish layer of copper carbonate or sulfate—that slows further corrosion. However, prolonged exposure to strong acids (e.g., acid rain) may dissolve this layer, leading to pitting and surface erosion.
