When creating metal sculptures, the choice between forge-welded and arc-welded joints significantly impacts the artwork's durability, aesthetics, and structural integrity. Forge-welded joints involve heating metal pieces to high temperatures and hammering them together, resulting in a seamless bond that preserves the metal's grain structure. This traditional technique offers exceptional strength and a rustic, organic appearance, making it ideal for sculptures requiring a handcrafted look.

In contrast, arc-welded joints use an electric arc to melt and fuse metals, allowing for precise, clean connections with minimal distortion. This modern method is faster and more versatile, enabling intricate designs and the joining of dissimilar metals. However, arc welding can create visible weld beads, which may or may not align with the sculptor's vision.
